OpenAI Releases ChatGPT - Tech Insiders News, December 2022

A curated collection of «signal over noise» links about interactive technologies, AI, web3, sense-making, entrepreneurship, and psychology.

- Open AI released ChatGPT, an «AI» that everyone can converse with in a dialog form. Everybody’s reactions range from freaking out to being amazed. Here are my takes:
I don’t think it’s much different in performances than GPT3, it’s «just» much easier to interact with. It was designed to be more natural, so it feels more impressive.
There are safety features built-in; for example, it won’t directly tell you how to build a bomb… But it’s so easy to break by asking the bot to pretend or act! In my article about the impacts of AI, I discuss how I think that AI will have an impact equivalent to the invention of the computer: every field will be impacted… Even programmers. This is how we will build software in the future: by politely asking an AI to do it.
Here’s one example for you: - Sony releases Mocopi, a set of motion capture devices dedicated to Virtual Worlds, mostly for VTubers and games, but also for «the Metaverse».
It’s portable and «affordable» at about ~400 USD
It’s interesting to see Sony bet on hardware when other AI-based tools, such as Move.ai, are emerging. Which one will win? My bet is on AI. - Augmented Reality headsets will have many applications… and cooking is maybe not the first one we had in mind. This video is not new, but it sparked an interesting debate in me: do we really need this? As our civilization faces many environmental and societal challenges, where do we draw the line between what is really useful and what is not? And if such a limitation should exist, who chooses? Who enforces it? Oh well. I bet the creator of this demo didn’t think it would bring such philosophical questions!
And today’s image, thanks to Midjourney: «An AI cooking in the Metaverse».
Looks tasty!
