Apple's Reality Pro Headset Leaks - Tech Insiders News, January 2023

Tech insiders news - January 31st, 2023

A curated collection of «signal over noise» links about interactive technologies, AI, web3, sense-making, entrepreneurship, and psychology.

  1. Details on the future Apple Headset are coming up:
    Probably named «Reality Pro»,
iOS-like interface, many apps ready on launch, partnerships with Disney,
    No physical controller,
Input via Siri and through iPhone/Keyboard/Mouse, air-typing is rumored for later,
An external battery of the size of 2 iPhone 14 Pro Max,
And a Siri-based tool to create Augmented Reality apps without code.
What to conclude? Apple has been at the core of many wide-adopted technologies: iPod, iPhone, iPad… Are they hoping, with this device, to initiate the large adoption of devices that will replace the laptop and the smartphone?
  2. You might have seen the video below of FlawlessAI’s TrueSync software. In short, it can replace a mouth in a video with another with a completely updated dialog; they aim to make subtitles obsolete by generating one movie per language. Let’s dig deeper into the future:
Imagine the other applications… A sales pitch or a video chatbot that could be edited and personalized for each client. In education or journalism, videos could be edited to fix mistakes or make updates. All of this without the need for reshooting.
So, that was the positives applications. Of course, such a tool could be used to create fake videos and blackmail or false accusations; or, in the other way, censor information by changing dialogue.
Well, what should we do? Monitoring the usage of such software with legal and regulations? But what if the government enforcing these laws is itself ill-intended? Boom, here we go again: a multi-polar trap appears.
Following up on the concept of Experiential Intelligence I introduced last week; we need a multi-faceted approach: regulatory, of course; technological to secure, encrypt, detect and watermark videos; education, so everyone is aware of the risks, and community-driven fact-checking; everyone united around this concept, where we are not optimizing for power or money, but for the society’s interest as a whole.
  3. Everyone makes mistakes or imprecisions, and so do I! For example, I was very optimistic about the Mojo AR Display Contact Lens. Still, they stopped their development. Also, there are nuances that I’d like I had included in my newsletter last week about Microsoft.
I could update it all manually, but I wish there were a writing platform that would allow me to quickly update concepts in all the posts with nuances, precisions, or corrections. Imagine applying this concept to social networks, podcasts, science papers… #ExperiencialIntelligence ;-)
And then I thought… Oh sh*t, I can at least use GPT libraries to query all my posts using plain English questions! So I exported all my posts, did a small GPT magic, and asked some questions. It needs perfection - I did it in 10 minutes - but it’s not bad!
    What is the Metaverse?
«The metaverse is a virtual world that is an evolution of the internet, where people can communicate and interact with each other in a more engaging way using XR technologies such as Mixed/Virtual/Augmented Reality headsets/glasses. It is a unified and seamless platform that allows people to connect with each other in a more embodied experience.»
    Okay, 8/10 here.
    Any incoherence between topics?
«No, there does not appear to be any incoherence between the topics discussed in the context information. The topics discussed include interactive technologies, AI, web3, sense-making, entrepreneurship, and psychology. The author also discusses the potential risks of AI, the success of an AI in a board game, and the failure of another AI in research papers. The author also provides links to charities and a funny read. Finally, the author discusses the potential of AI art generation. All of these topics are related and coherent.»
Yay! Approved by an AI, achievement unlocked! And then I imagined I could run this on my email, my slack history… ;-)
  4. In brief:
Very polished concept car from Audi where all displays are based on Augmented Reality
Excellent use of geospatial information in Augmented Reality
And a very clever use of hands in VR, where the gameplay is based on the hand’s shadows!

And today’s image, thanks to Midjourney: «A multi-faceted collaboration system, including governments, industry, start-ups, and community, assisted by an AI, they are optimizing for the well-being of society as a whole, using a concept called Experiential Intelligence.».
