We can’t miss it; there was a lot of news during the Meta Connect conference last week. There are huge expectations from almost every corner of the industry towards Meta: Facebook is growing old, Horizons (Meta’s Metaverse) doesn’t start in the best position, and Apple will be releasing its device probably next year. Here is what you need to know:
- The release of the high-end Meta Quest Pro headset with improved performance and resolution; inward-facing cameras for eye-tracking and face tracking; and outward-facing color cameras for mixed reality.
The inward-facing cameras will be used to transfer the user’s expressions to the avatar in the Virtual World, making them more alive and thus improving the feeling of presence.
Mixed Reality (the blending of the real and virtual worlds) is, in my opinion, where we will see a lot of innovations and exciting experiences, and the Quest Pro is pushing toward that!
Where it stands: We are excited to compare it with the upcoming Lynx headset, which seems super promising for Mixed Reality. Some early insights… - Partnerships. This was interesting and, in my opinion, the most impactful announcement. And there’s a lot:
Microsoft to support Meta Workrooms (the XR meeting space) in Teams with a lot of other exciting collaborations,
Accenture to push Meta and XR solutions in the workplace/industry,
Autodesk & Adobe to push the use of XR for media creation and collaborative review,
NBC Universal for content collaboration,
Xbox cloud gaming will be available on the Quest. - And other news, in no specific order:
There was a demo with very impressive movement on the avatar’s legs… Which was fake!
Meta is investing a lot into improving how we interact with the Virtual Worlds and showcased their research on Brain-Computer interfaces.

Realistic avatars are coming (someday).
That’s it for today; I’ll be back later this week with our standard newsletter 😎
