Milka - Milka Christmas World

Milka's Christmas World toured public spaces in December 2012, including the Burgtheater in Vienna and the main train stations in Frankfurt and Berlin. The problem with a station concourse is that nobody stops to be briefed: the experience has to explain itself, run all day, and recover on its own when a player walks off mid-game.

The installation used a depth sensor and a large screen. Passers-by saw their own image composited into a Milka winter scene and played through it with their body rather than a controller, across scenes including a sledge race and a wall. We worked on the software under Total Immersion, contributing the game logic fixes and the resilience layer: a watchdog that cycles through nine branded holding images and brings the experience back up between players, and a patch so on-screen messages appear the moment the player commits.

We were on site in Berlin for the installation.
